  • HTC TyTN II to get “improved graphics driver”. Branded devices (AT&T, etc.) and others need not apply?
By Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

MSMobiles is reporting from a reliable source that the HTC TyTN II (aka the "Tilt") is scheduled to get a new ROM update that will include "…improved graphics drivers and will offer improved performance ".

What is more exciting is that this update is planned for this month and possibly even next week .

Yowzers. Though, fyi we’re taking this with a huge grain of salt , so don’t get those torches and mob ready just yet.

The potential bad news? This is only for unbranded HTC TyTN II devices, meaning the AT&T Tilt won’t be included, for whatever reason (we’re betting it has to do with this: money and who pays).

While unfortunate and inconvenient, at least it may be possible for the prominent hacker community to rip the driver for those unlucky owners of branded devices. Stay tuned .

However, what may be even worse, if true, is this quote from MSMobiles:

HTC is not not (!) preparing in near future updates for any other phones that might have these graphic issues.

Probably not what anyone wants to hear. Hopefully details will follow as pressure mounts on HTC if any of this pans out to be accurate,

We’ll await for an official HTC response though for our final judgement.

  • Plextor offers up StorX PX-NAS500L / PX-NAS1000L NAS drives
By Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen any fresh new kit from Plextor, but the firm has just rolled out a new pair of NAS drives for those on the hunt for — what else? — networked storage. The StorX PX-NAS500L / PX-NAS1000L drives offer up 500GB and 1TB of capacity, respectively, and each unit includes a gigabit Ethernet port, one-touch USB back-up button and the ability to grow thanks to a pair of USB 2.0 sockets. Beyond that, you won’t find much else special about the new duo, and your guess is as good as ours on pricing / availability.

  • Breaking News: Firmware 2.0 hints suggest Apple might be working on a 3G iPhone
By Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

You’ll never believe this, but it looks like Cupertino might be getting ready to drop a bomb this summer — a 3G bomb, in fact! The latest beta release of Firmware for the iPhone has apparently revealed a preference screen that allows users of the new model to disable the 3G radio and fall back to GPRS / EDGE because the faster service "decreases battery life." Gotta pay to play, as they say. The ability to disable 3G service in favor of improved standby performance is a pretty common one in modern phones, so we’re not surprised to see it here — just a little disappointed that Apple hasn’t incorporated enough fairy dust to magically make the problem go away.

    • 3.2 megapixel camera
    • Wi-Fi connectivity
    • Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity

  • Micro Projector is wonderful! and works great!
By Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Mention the word projector and you will probably be faced with the image of something large, bulky and heats up way too easily. Thankfully, the advance in technology has managed to miniaturize many devices, including the traditional projector. This diminutive sized projector isn’t exactly the highest resolution of the lot, but what more can you ask for for something its size? After all, it retails for approximately $200 and measures 6.7? x 3.9? x 3.5?, being small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It will cast an image around 30″ diagonally, anything more than that will greatly degrade the image quality (480 x 240 resolution). Four AA batteries will be able to power it for up to 2.5 hours, so make sure you stock up on rechargeable batteries before picking this up.
