HTC Releases WM 6.1 for TyTN II

May 24th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Applications, Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets, Service Providers, Tech Companies

Just as we expected, HTC has let us know that they’ve released the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the TyTN II. That’s the first official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade available on any device, meaning that along with the Touch Dual, HTC is selling the only official Windows Mobile 6.1 devices at the moment.

Just to reiterate, that update is only available to folks in Europe who have the straight TyTN II. As for ‘branded’ TyTN II devices like the HTC Tilt, there’s going to be wait, as “[HTC looks] forward to providing similar updates for certain carrier and HTC-branded devices in the near future.”

HTC Touch Dual coming to best buy this weekend

May 24th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets

Here’s a quick note to spice up your weekend: The first official Windows Mobile 6.1 device is going to be available in the US this weekend. Specifically it’s the Quad-band Touch Dual, which HTC is selling fully unlocked at Best Buy locations for $549.99. You should also be able to pick it up at their website.

The Touch Dual is a very nice device, with it’s sliding 20-key suretype-y keyboard and 3G wireless and TouchFLO 2. It’s not too surprising that the first official Windows Mobile 6.1 device we’re seeing is something unlocked and un-related to carriers. 6.1 isn’t that different from 6, is the approval process really all that difficult, guys?

    Ken I portable media player

May 24th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Electronics, Mobile gadgets

Apart from the iPod nano, there are many other portable media players that are extremely diminutive in size, but those non-Apple models (especially the ones that hail from China) tend to be of inferior quality with an insanely high failure rate as well as shoddy workmanship despite packing in a whole bunch of features. Hopefully the Korean Ken I portable media player you see here is more durable and of respectable quality. Very little is known about it, but a 3″ LCD display and 8GB of internal memory has been confirmed. From the product shot, one can tell that this relies on a mini USB connection for file transfer. Other features include support for the most popular audio and video formats in addition to e-book compatibility. 8GB of storage space for €50 sounds like a pretty good bargain to me.
