Tranquil PC announces Intel Atom-based Harmony home servers

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | 1 Comment | Filed in Breaking News, Desktops, Electronics, Mobile gadgets, Tech Companies

Well, doesn’t Tranquil PC seems pretty stoked about their new Atom-based Harmony home servers? Though they’re not exactly mind-blowing (to us, anyway), two new fanless models should be shipping in June: the T7-HSAi (left, with a single 3.5-inch drive or two 2.5-inch drives) and T2-WHS-A3i (right, with up to two 3.5-inch drives), both featuring Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, 512MB or 1GB RAM options, and running Windows Home Server. With base configs and 500GB drives, the T7 will start at £278 ($550 US), and the T2 at £299 ($590 US).

Samsung announces crazy fast 256GB SSD, our knees buckle

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Desktops, Mobile gadgets, Tech Companies

Uh oh, Samsung’s just announced their first 256 GB SSD. Not that you needed to know anything more than that to trigger salivation, but the MLC-flash SATA II drive has speeds of 200MBps read and 160MBps sequential write. Not like we’ll be able to afford it or anything, but they’ll be available come September, with a 1.8-inch version due in Q4.

Full specs for Palm Treo 850

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets, Service Providers, Tech Companies

we’ve got the full spec sheet to round out the package. Keep in mind that most of this is subject to change/speculation, but everything on here looks legitimate enough:

    • 14 mm in thickness, width 60 mm and length 113 mm
    • GSM, EDGE and UMTS HSDPA 3.6
    • aGPS
    • Wi-FI b/g
    • 320×320 screen, touch panel
    • micro-SD slot under the battery
    • 2 MP camera
    • 1500 mAh battery
    • A micro-USB connector for both power and sync
    • Bluetooth 2.0 EDR + A2DP, 256 MB NAND-Flash (> 175 MB for user), 32 MB SDRAM
    • Windows Mobile Pro 6.1

This all looks good, but our earlier info indicated 100 MB of RAM, so we’re not sure what to believe. Either way, Wi-Fi, GPS, and HSDPA are nothing to laugh about, and we’re glad Palm has finally decided to abandon their bulky proprietary power connector in favor of the more svelte micro-USB standard.

Nokia E71 gets handled before announcement-Again

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets

Slim, attractive body: check. Full QWERTY: check. North American 3G: check. Announced: eh, not so much. We’re getting outright disgruntled with the deafening silence out of Espoo regarding the hotly-anticipated E71 at this point, so once again, we’re just going to have to let the pictures do the talking. Boy Genius Report has landed an example of the device (which, prototype or otherwise, looks perfect) and promises a full review shortly, but in the meantime, they’ve left us a handful of shots for our viewing pleasure.

Rumors indicate Eee Box will be called EBOX, coming June 3

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Desktops, Electronics, Tech Companies

What we have been calling the Asus Eee Box looks to finally have an official name. Based on unnamed sources, the Inquirer is reporting that the desktop PC will be called the Asus EBOX. As Already speculated

They are saying it will be revealed on June 3 at Computex. Specs also look to be what we’ve been told already: 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM, and a Linux OS. Nothing much more to see here, but we’re hoping Asus will give this thing a competitive price for those looking to tinker with a slick open-source box.
