Samsung i8510 Gets Real in NYC
-
At an event in NYC tonite, Samsung was showing off its previously rumored i8510 S60-powered smartphone. With its whopping 8 megapixel camera, Samsung has upped the ante to Nokia in the imaging department, and with video recording set at QVGA resolution up to 120 frames per second, or VGA quality with up to 30 frames per second, they’re pushing forth in the video department, as well. As I’d hoped, megapixels aren’t the only extra feature in this cameraphone. You’ll also find smile, face, and blink detection, image stabilization, and support for panoramic photos. A full editing suite is onboard, allowing you to trim video, dub audio, and even add subtitles.
The Samsung i8510 is the first non-Nokia S60 smartphone to feature quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band WCDMA (900/2100MHz), and they’ve thrown WiFi in there for good measure, as well. A built-in GPS receiver and accelerometer ensure plenty of fun opportunities, and FIFA 2008 and Asphalt 4 are pre-installed, as well. This whopper of a smartphone offers up a 1200mAh battery for extended usage, and still comes in only 17.2mm (.6″) thick.
For music, the i8510 is gifted with a standard 3.5mm audio port, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support for stereo headsets, and stereo speakers. 16GB of internal storage, paired with a microSD card slot offers more than plenty storage opportunities, as well. The i8510 is Divx and DLNA certified and also offers up an expansive 2.8″ QVGA-resolution display.
