New iPhone Software 2.0.2 Today, New iPhone Shipment for AT&T Tomorrow

August 18th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in ATT, Apple, Applications, Firmware

First things first, we just got word that iPhone owners can look forward to a nice little firmware update coming their way in just over half an hour. Version 2.0.2 (5C1) is due to hit iTunes at 5:00 pm EST today and will consist mainly of performance tweaks. This might be very good news however, if you’re one of the many people having issues with your shiny new iPhone 3G. You know, the select few now known as “Jobs’ 2%”. With any luck the upcoming update will resolve the “issues” he referred to in his one-liner and all will be right again in the world.

Samsung fans unite!

August 16th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Samsung, T-Mobile

Usually when Samsung announces a T-mobile launch the world hardly takes notice. T-mobile fans yawn and hope for something better in the future, you know something that doesn’t have a VGA camera. Well sports fans, here we go, Samsung actually has something good in store for us. Not just good, great, its a T-mobile Samsung on steroids. Here she is the Samsung T919 aka “Tocco” aka “Roxy”:

samsung_tease

It sports a 5 megapixel camera, GPS WITH voice command (think those annoying Sprint Instinct commercials), streaming video, 3G love, “awesome” video ringtones, capacitive touchscreen, POSSIBLE wifi but we are definitely NOT sure on this one, up to 16 gig memory (micro-sd), glossy black front or “fingerprint magnet” as we like to call it with a brushed aluminum back, streaming video and consumer email functionality built in. This IS a dumbphone folks, so smartphone lovers beware as it is one of the hottest dumbphones around.

Samsung Instinct gets major updates from Sprint

August 15th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Samsung, Sprint PCS

Sprint have released its second update for the Samsung Instinct, and unlike last time this looks to be a far more significant change.  Changes have been made to Sprint TV, the browser, Picture Messaging, Navigation and more, with differences including optimized YouTube playback, smoother Sprint TV/Radio and better Bluetooth headphone performance.

Unlike the previous update, which was released in one go, individual applications will prompt to be upgraded when loaded.  Sprint is rolling out the changes progressively, so certain apps will offer an update while others will not; our own Instinct had access to the Visual Voicemail and Sprint TV software, for instance, but not to Navigation or the media player.  There doesn’t appear to be a way to download everything at one time, presumably to minimize stress on the network.
