Crazytoe Offers Rent-to-Own Gadget Plans

July 17th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in News, Selling and Buying

crazytoe.jpg

Has anyone tried out crazytoe.com? The website offers mostly cell phones, UMPCs, GPS receivers, PMPs, and mobile accessories through rent-to-own schemes. Read on for a sampling of their current monthly rates.

  • LG KE850 Prada - $119.98
  • Nokia E90 - $116.98
  • HTC Touch Cruise - $99.98
  • Sony Ericsson G900 - $85.00

A bit pricey; one would imagine crazytoe’s business model involves premiums on the monthly rates. Though the website does offer phones at a lower price after 90 days of renting, and also has a recycling program that adds credit to a user’s account. Obviously, all cell phones offered by crazytoe.com are unlocked to work with any cell network.

Would renting the “latest” cell phones be appealing? Wouldn’t you rather just save up for the drool-worthy gadget instead? Or do you have to be seen using a certain phone?

Sony Ericsson Alicia identified as W707 clamshell Walkman phone

July 15th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Sony Ericcson

You have to wonder. Why does Sony Ericsson have so many leaked handsets, and yet not a single one has been announced or made available?

Anyway, here’s another one. The mysterious Sony Ericsson Walkman phone codenamed Alicia that we first told you about from a while back has been identified as the Sony Ericsson W707, and as you can see from the photo is a flip-type phone.

W707

The specs could do a bit of improvement, though, as the Sony Ericsson W707 only features a 3.2 megapixel camera without autofocus, only one speaker, and ho-hum screens.

The keypad looks like something straight out of the RAZR, too, but if you find it attractive, we won’t keep you. More details on this handset as we stumble upon them.

Orange, BIC team up to launch the simple BIC phone in France

July 14th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Handsets

BIC phoneOrange has teamed up with BIC to launch the easy-to-use, ready-to-go BIC phone. Manufactured by TCL (Alcatel), the entry-level device comes with 60 free minutes, the battery charged, and the SIM card already in place. Once you spend the free minutes, refilling is done using prepaid cards called “mobicarte.”

The idea seems to reach those users that don’t care about high-end features of today’s smartphones, but rather prefer simple phone for texting and calling. Additionally, the France Telecom owned mobile operator may push the device towards a large number of tourists, who in most cases just need a cheap solution to stay in touch while visiting France.

That being said, the two companies will push the BIC phone through over the counter channels, major supermarkets and local convenience stores. Starting from August, 7th, BIC phone will be available in citrus orange and lime green in metropolitan France for 49 EUR with all the taxes.

Review: LG KF750 Secret

June 7th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Handsets

GsmArena has published a review of LG KF750 Secret. Read the review here

“We are impressed with the LG KF750 Secret. Once again we’ve got proof that LG are committed to improving a little something in every new high-end handset they release and not just replicate and facelift old designs. We are so pleased with the Secret mainly because that it’s a lot of fun to use. It has the looks to get your attention and the features to keep it. What is more, on almost every occasion its performance lives up to the promise of the specs sheet.Of course, it is not all bed of roses for the KF750. It has its imperfections just like any other device on the market. The sunlight legibility issues of the screen and the limited touch control do give market rivals a chance. However we still find the LG Secret capable enough of standing its ground in the highly competitive high-end segment.”

Concept Phone Charges Self With The Rays Of The Sun

June 7th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Handsets

Another day, another concept phone. This Eclipse Intuit, by Eddie Goh, features a touch keypad with tactile feedback, 5 megapixel camera with built-in photo editing software, a giant touchscreen and a chemical-based thin solar skin that will charge the battery when exposed to light.

It sounds all well and good, except how often does anyone keep their phone out in the open gathering sunlight? Usually if I’m out and about, my cell stays firmly in the depths of my handbag or in my back pocket and, last time I checked, sunlight doesn’t reach there. I guess this phone is going to stay a concept. [Yanko Design ]

Full specs for Palm Treo 850

May 25th, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets, Service Providers, Tech Companies

we’ve got the full spec sheet to round out the package. Keep in mind that most of this is subject to change/speculation, but everything on here looks legitimate enough:

  • 14 mm in thickness, width 60 mm and length 113 mm
  • GSM, EDGE and UMTS HSDPA 3.6
  • aGPS
  • Wi-FI b/g
  • 320×320 screen, touch panel
  • micro-SD slot under the battery
  • 2 MP camera
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • A micro-USB connector for both power and sync
  • Bluetooth 2.0 EDR + A2DP, 256 MB NAND-Flash (> 175 MB for user), 32 MB SDRAM
  • Windows Mobile Pro 6.1

This all looks good, but our earlier info indicated 100 MB of RAM, so we’re not sure what to believe. Either way, Wi-Fi, GPS, and HSDPA are nothing to laugh about, and we’re glad Palm has finally decided to abandon their bulky proprietary power connector in favor of the more svelte micro-USB standard.

Sprint joins the party unlimited data = 5gb

May 21st, 2008 by Gadgetboy | No Comments | Filed in Breaking News, Electronics, Mobile Phones, Mobile gadgets, Service Providers, Tech Companies

We think it’s officially time for all major US carriers to be prohibited from using the word “Unlimited” in their data plan marketing materials. Following on the heels of Verizon and AT&T, Sprint has made the decision to cap their “Unlimited” data plan at 5GB of monthly usage. According to a leaked internal memo, the company is also going to impose a 300mb limit on off-network usage. The cap is set to go into effect on the 13th of July. The good news, however, is that this might give anyone eager to leave the carrier an ETF-free window, provided the change constitutes a “material breach of contract” on Sprint’s end. If you do decide to stay, however, consider yourselves warned as anyone caught in violation of the new limits may find themselves kicked off their current plan, banned from Sprint for life, burned with a flaming stick, or bitten to death by Dan Hesse.
