T-Mobile launches Nokia XpressMusic 5310By Gadgetboy on May 21st, 2008 | No Comments
T-Mobile USA and Nokia have just launched the Nokia XpressMusic 5310, which is the successor to the Nokia 5300. The slider candybar handset sports a number of mid-range features, including a 2MP camera with video support, FM radio, QVGA screen, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a bit more. Sadly, the handset is a tri-band EDGE phone, so anyone with aspiration of taking T-Mobile’s new 3G network for a spin might want to look elsewhere. The phone does come with a 1GB microSD card out of the box, and the handset supports cards up to 4GB. To drum up some attention for an otherwise mediocre launch, Noki... -
Cell Phone Sales Plummet in 2008By Gadgetboy on May 20th, 2008 | No Comments
The economy’s in such a sorry state that people are postponing or foregoing altogether the purchase of a new cellular telephone, according to research from the market analysts at The NPD Group. The grim research says that domestic cell phone sales declined a whopping 22 percent in the first quarter vs. Q1 of 2007, a monumental decline. Revenues for those phone sales are a little better, reflecting only a 7 percent decline and indicating that while fewer phones are being sold, at least they’re being sold at modestly higher prices. In ranking the top five manufacturers in Q1, some su... -
3G iPhone coming on 9th June! CONFIRMEDBy Gadgetboy on May 20th, 2008 | No Comments
We all suspected it, but now it is confirmed: someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch has told me that Apple will announce their new model at the WWDC Keynote on June 9th. The second-generation iPhone will be available worldwide right after the launch, and not at year’s end, as previously thought. The new model will also herald new sales policies in some countries. In Spain, for example, the 3G iPhone will be available for sale at the June 18th grand opening of Telefonica’s megastore–an Apple Store-like shop located in the company’s historical building in Madr... -
iPhone Vista Perfection theme rocksThis is a tricky one. I’m sure many of the iPhone owners won’t even consider getting something with "Vista" word on their beloved device, like ever. However, I must say they should consider this beautiful theme… VistaPerfection is a Summerboard compatible theme, created by Spec Works. Features include over 90 icons, boot and restore images, sliders and vista login/logoff (unlock/lock). The screenshot on the left is there to help you realize just how cool this is. Yeah, you may hate the Windows logo and I can understand that, but the icons are gorgeous. The problem, tho...

RIM Plans to Sell Touch Screen SmartphoneBy Gadgetboy on May 17th, 2008 | No Comments
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that RIM is going to release a touch-enabled device. The touch-screen device, known as the Thunder, will be an exclusive to Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. According to sources familiar with RIM’s plans, it should be available in the third quarter of this year. The phone will be able to run on U.S. networks, as well as on networks in foreign countries. RIM did not explain if this means it will be a dual-mode CDMA/GSM phone or not. The Thunder will be able to access 3G networks. RIM says it has worked to improve the battery life, browsing experience, an... -
HTC Touch Diamond unboxed, packaging worthy of the phoneBy Gadgetboy on May 16th, 2008 | No Comments
Nothing new to report on the Touch Diamond’s tech here, but wow, look how fun the box is! Of course, we know you’re all waiting to see what they stuffed in the wedge-shaped package, and the answer is a charger, headset, USB cable, a manual or two, and the software. The charger appears to be a universal job with a swappable plug for travel, and the headset a typical example of an HTC pack-in — albeit with a dash of fun and angular design. Samsung’s Glyde Slides Open at VerizonBy Gadgetboy on May 11th, 2008 | No Comments
Samsung announced the SCH-u940 Glyde, a new sideways slider for Verizon Wireless that has a touch screen user interface on the front. The Glyde is a CDMA version of the F700. Its UI is based on Samsung’s Croix interface, but has been heavily modified for Verizon. It features haptics feedback and measures 240 x 440 pixels. The Glyde also slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard for messaging. Other features include a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a microSD slot for storing media (supports up to 8GB), and stereo Bluetooth. The Glyde has EVDO data, a full HTML browser, a... -
More Sony Ericsson BeiBei leaked photosBy Gadgetboy on May 11th, 2008 | No Comments
Almost a month ago we posted one of the first Sony Ericsson BeiBei leaked photos . As far as we know, the upcoming device will run the latest version of UIQ (3.3 ) on top of Symbian OS, and will also boast such things as some camera (we’re not sure about the megapixel count), Wifi and Bluetooth. We would certainly like to see HSDPA on the list too, but we’re not sure about that one either. It’s likely the Swedish-Japanese handset maker won’t market the BeiBei as a smartphone — rather, they’ll probably sell it to all round feature phone users, which want an ext... -
HTC TyTN II to get “improved graphics driver”. Branded devices (AT&T, etc.) and others need not apply?By Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments
MSMobiles is reporting from a reliable source that the HTC TyTN II (aka the "Tilt") is scheduled to get a new ROM update that will include "…improved graphics drivers and will offer improved performance ". What is more exciting is that this update is planned for this month and possibly even next week . Yowzers. Though, fyi we’re taking this with a huge grain of salt , so don’t get those torches and mob ready just yet. The potential bad news? This is only for unbranded HTC TyTN II devices, meaning the AT&T Tilt won’t be included, for whatever re... -
Breaking News: Firmware 2.0 hints suggest Apple might be working on a 3G iPhoneBy Gadgetboy on May 10th, 2008 | No Comments
You’ll never believe this, but it looks like Cupertino might be getting ready to drop a bomb this summer — a 3G bomb, in fact! The latest beta release of Firmware for the iPhone has apparently revealed a preference screen that allows users of the new model to disable the 3G radio and fall back to GPRS / EDGE because the faster service "decreases battery life." Gotta pay to play, as they say. The ability to disable 3G service in favor of improved standby performance is a pretty common one in modern phones, so we’re not surprised to see it here — just a little ...
