  • Opera Mobile 9.5 beta 1 fixes notification sound bug
    By Gadgetboy on July 29th, 2008 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments
Opera Mobile 9.5 is off to a healthy start, but like all beta software, Opera Mobile 9.5 beta has its fair share of bugs that still need to be worked out. So, to keep up with their beta-users, Opera has released their first update for Opera Mobile 9.5 beta. The beta 1 update fixes an audio bug that turns off the notifications sounds. This particular update was apparently easy enough to roll out quick and dirty style, but more significant updates are going to take a bit more time. We have updated the beta1 with a fix for the (very annoying) bug that turned off the notification sounds. The n...
  • Hands On with Opera Mobile 9.5!
By Gadgetboy on July 17th, 2008 | No Comments Comments
Popout Here’s the video of our hands-on with Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta. As promised, we tested in a Sprint Mogul. We left it stock, no memory optimizations on it, to try to get a good feel of how big a memory hog Opera Mobile would be. Verdict: it’s pretty darn greedy, but even so it seems to run pretty well. Here’s to hoping that this is a ‘beta’ issue. Co-WMExpert Phil Nickinson also writes in about Opera: Runs pretty well on my trusty 750 (even with EDGE only), but HOLY MEMORY HOG BATMAN! Might wanna suggest this, too, to move the cache to the storage card… ...

With Opera Mini, Swisscom customers can take advantage of the full Web on their mobile phones. Whether in need of a train schedule, a quick answer from Google or a friend fix on Facebook, Opera Mini is the vehicle to get Swisscom users to where they want to go. Opera Mini’s compression technology m...
  • Opera Mobile 9.5 is delayed until July 17
By Gadgetboy on July 15th, 2008 | No Comments Comments
From the official Opera Mobile Blog Some things in life don’t go according to plan — at least not in software development. We knew when we announced a release date before we finished development that a showstopper bug might be found that could alter the actual date we release the beta. As you can imagine, we encountered a few bugs last week that we needed to fix before we launch. Our engineering team worked through the weekend to fix the bugs. Even though our release is a beta, we’d rather spend the extra time to fix them, thus giving you a better experience. The fixes are almost comple...
  • Party time: Opera Mobile 9.5 beta on July 15!
By Gadgetboy on June 26th, 2008 | No Comments Comments
Get your hands on the toted “better-than-safari-mobile” experience this July. That’s dynamic zooming, text resizing, and an ultra fast, non-proxy surfing experience. I’m really glad this software is out there, and I think Safari could really learn a thing or two from Opera on the zooming end. I love the way that Opera’s text just gets bigger as you zoom in and re-formats itself to fit the screen. Fantastic! So set reminders for this mid July, folks! News from jkOnTheRun. ...
  • Opera Mini 4.1 gets a silent update for BlackBerry, Palm device users
By Gadgetboy on May 28th, 2008 | No Comments Comments
Opera Software has announced a “silent” update of its Opera Mini 4.1 web browser for BlackBerry and Palm device users. With the new version (4.1.11355) of Opera Mini, BlackBerry users should now be able to only use WiFi. In addition, BIS might be working, though Opera Mini folks can’t guarantee that — it works on one of their two different service providers. As for the Palm users, they should expect an improved image performance thank to better memory handling. If you don’t use Palm or BlackBerry, you don’t really have to update.
